Remember to finish your cause and effect essay using the following organizational format:

INTRODUCTION

- Hook: grab the readers attention with questions (leave the reader curious), an anecdote/story (leave your reader emotionally invested), OR a joke (leave your reader laughing).

- Background Information: explain who it is you are talking about (general information about this person).

- Thesis Statement: one sentence that expresses your argument. This is the long sentence you wrote on the back of your brainstorming grid.

BODY PARAGRAPH 1

- Topic Sentence: state what this paragraph will prove (person's name + cause 1 + because + effect 1)

- Detail 1: introduce your cause

- Explaning Detail 1: justify the cause by providing examples.

- Detail 2: introduce your effect

- Explaning Detail 2: justify the effect by providing examples.

- Restate Topic Sentence: state the topic sentence again in a new way.

BODY PARAGRAPH 2

- Topic Sentence: state what this paragraph will prove (person's name + cause 2 + because + effect 2)

- Detail 1: introduce your cause

- Explaning Detail 1: justify the cause by providing examples.

- Detail 2: introduce your effect

- Explaning Detail 2: justify the effect by providing examples.

- Restate Topic Sentence: state the topic sentence again in a new way.

BODY PARAGRAPH 3

- Topic Sentence: state what this paragraph will prove (person's name + cause 3 + because + effect 3)

- Detail 1: introduce your cause

- Explaning Detail 1: justify the cause by providing examples.

- Detail 2: introduce your effect

- Explaning Detail 2: justify the effect by providing examples.

- Restate Topic Sentence: state the topic sentence again in a new way.

CONCLUSION

- Restate Thesis

- Refer to Hook: bring the paper full circle by referring to your hook (if you asked a question, then answer it; if you told an anecdote, then finish the story; if you told joke, then explain the punch line).

- SO WHAT? Explain why this matters by teaching your reader a lesson they can learn by looking at this person's cause and effect on you, the community, and/or the world.
